The estate was originally founded by François Gerbet in 1947. Until 1983, the Gerbet sisters Marie-André and Chantal Gerbet took over the duty of Domaine Francois Gerbet from their father and they have been making impressive Vosne Romané e since then. The Gerbet sisters are related to the Sirugue family in Vosne-Romanee, as their mother, Suzanne Gerbet – born Sirugue, is the sister of Robert Sirugue.
François Gerbet has 12 hectares of vineyards, including 0.31 hectares of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, 0.19 hectares of Grand Cru Échezeaux; Vosne-Romanée premiers crus Les Petits Monts and Les Suchots; Chambolle-Musigny premiers cru Les Plantes; village Vosne-Romané e, including Lieu-dit Aux Réas. Half of the exploitation is in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits.
The recipe here is for de-stalking in most vintages, a cuvaison of about a fortnight and up to 75% new wood for the top wines and the separately bottled village Aux Ré as.
The Gerbet sisters are now one of the female biodynamic pioneers in Vosne-Romané e and Robert Parker has awarded the domaine with 3 stars rating.
